English
English incorporates reading and writing as well as phonics and oracy.
In EYFS, each English unit is based on a story book which has been carefully chosen by the Reception team.

The children are engaged with the book and teachers bring it to life. The book is used as a stimulus for writing which follows a clear process.

Within their writing, the focus is around precision: letter formation, finger spacing, spelling based on phonics and punctuation. Children are taught to orally rehearse a caption or sentence before writing it. The focus is on making the sentence as accurate as possible. Teachers work closely with children to develop this.

Drawing Club
This is the first lesson in any new unit. It focuses on language development and targets fine motor skills through drawing activities and story telling.

Handwriting
Before starting school, it is important that all children have lots of opportunities to mark make using a range of tools/equipment such as crayons, sticks, paint brushes. This builds hands strength ready for learning the correct letter formation in reception. LINK to letter formation
We continue to work on this throughout the year.
